Hoghton Fact File
The village of Hoghton forms part of Lancashire's Borough of Chorley.
The manor house of Hoghton Tower has been the ancestral home of the De Hoghton family since the twelfth century. It has a double courtyard plan and stands on top of a hill about 3/4 mile from the village. The manor house was rebuilt and extended in the nineteenth century.
Hoghton's Boars Head gastro pub dates back to the sixteenth century and is thought to be one of the final overnight stops of the Pendle witches in 1612, before their trial at Lancaster Assizes.
The sandstone built Hoghton Tower viaduct was constructed between 1844 and 1846 and was used to carry the Preston and Blackburn Railway over the River Darwen.
